The Community Action Committee ("CAC") of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association is comprised of attorneys using their expertise to identify those social issues that concern our local and global community. 

We are committed to using our legal resources to educate and enlighten our community about their rights and available resources that will embolden us all to enact positive change in our communities.

Members of the Straker CAC have participated with other organizations on the following events:

Veteran's Expungement Fair, February 27, 2016
Event held at Legal Aid and Defender Association located at 613 Abbott Detroit, MI 48226 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Featured speaker Honorable Deborah Thomas who runs Veteran's Court in Wayne County, will explain the entire  expungement process in the State of Michigan. The Expungement Fair helps individuals make a new start with a clean record.

Know Your Rights 2016: "Your Right to Vote!!"
Straker Bar is hosting a series of informative seminars throughout the community to inform the public about their right to vote and to dispel some myths surrounding the right to vote.

Project Clean Slate, June 4, 2016
(with the City of Detroit's Law Department) “Project Clean Slate” is an initiative of the City of Detroit’s Law Department where 100 lawyers and law students have been recruited to represent eligible applicants for expungement in court pro bono. In exchange for the representation, applicants agree to sign-up with the City’s Workforce Development agency to assist in job readiness and placement. This event was held at Fellowship Chapel, 7707 W. Outer Drive, Detroit.
