Mr. Gaines attended Detroit Mercy Law where he served as a Member of Law Review. Mr. Gaines currently serves on the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Section Board. Reginald M. Turner, American Bar Association 2020 President-Elect Nominee

In remarks to the ABA House of Delegates, Reginald M. Turner, Past President of the National Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan, spoke of his desire for service to the bar and of his first meeting with Dennis Archer Sr., the first African-American to serve as President of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. Turner stated that, "the most respected lawyers distinguish themselves by breathing life into the lawyers' oath" and that he is “proud to be among these guardians of the public welfare, promoting the rule of law”.

Turner spoke on Feb. 17, 2020 at the 81st ABA Midyear Meeting, in Austin, Texas.

Aaron V. Burrell, Straker Past President, Sworn In As SBM Representative Assembly Chair

Aaron V. Burrell of Detroit has been sworn in as the chair of the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly for 2019-2020. The 150-member Representative Assembly is the final policy-making body of the State Bar. The Michigan Supreme Court created it in 1971 at the request of the SBM Board of Commissioners in order to increase geographical representation and member participation in State Bar policy. Burrell represents the Third Judicial Circuit in the Assembly.

Burrell practices with Dickinson Wright LLC and focuses his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, labor and employment litigation, appellate litigation, and minority business enterprises. He is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan, as well as an officer on its Representative Assembly; is a member of the Board of Directors of the Oakland County Bar Association; is a past-president of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and vice president of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Foundation; was named a foundation fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Oakland County Bar Foundation; served as affiliate representative of the National Bar Association; and he previously co-chaired the State Bar of Michigan Equal Access Initiative.
